Small faith?
Big problem?
Believe…and speak.
At times, Jesus’ own disciples apparently had faith that wasn’t even as large as a mustard seed. They were unable to cast a demon out of a young boy, even though Jesus had given them authority to do so.
Casting out a demon sounds like a mountain-sized task. But Jesus wasn’t intimidated by it. He simply rebuked the demon, and the boy was healed.
“But that was Jesus,” you might say.
Yes, it was. Yet Jesus didn’t stop there. He turned to His disciples and explained why they had failed. His words weren’t just for them—they’re for us as well.
Jesus asked a sobering question:
“How long must I be with you until you believe?”
What mountain are you facing today?
A mountain of debt?
A mountain of chronic pain or disease?
A mountain in your marriage?
A mountain at work—or perhaps no job at all?
A mountain named fear… anxiety… addiction… a prodigal child… a broken relationship?
Whatever your mountain is, Jesus has not changed.
He said that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we can speak to our mountain. The power isn’t in the size of the seed—it’s in the greatness of the God in whom our faith is placed.
So listen to your thoughts today.
Then listen to your words.
Are they filled with fear…or with faith?
Are you constantly rehearsing the size of your problem, or are you declaring the promises of your God?
Faith doesn’t grow by wishing.
Faith comes from hearing the Word of God.
If you want mountain-moving faith, spend time reading Scripture. Find God’s promises about your situation. Read them. Believe them. Pray them. Speak them.
Perhaps today you simply need to begin saying:
“Lord, I choose to believe what You say more than what I see. Your Word is true, and You are able to move every mountain that stands before me.”
Growing faith doesn’t happen overnight, but every moment spent in God’s Word is another seed planted in your heart.
Don’t spend all your energy staring at the mountain.
Spend time with the Mountain Mover.
Then watch what He can do.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You never ask me to have perfect faith—only faith placed in You. Forgive me for the times I have focused more on the size of my mountain than on the greatness of my Savior. Fill my heart with Your Word until faith begins to replace fear. Help me to believe Your promises, to speak words that honor You, and to trust You even when I cannot yet see the answer. Move the mountains that stand in my way according to Your perfect will, and where You choose not to remove them immediately, give me the faith to keep walking with You. May my life point others to the greatness of Jesus, the One for whom nothing is impossible. In His precious name I pray, Amen.
“You didn’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
