1 John 1:5“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
Darkness has a way of revealing what we often try to hide.
In the book of Ezekiel, God spoke difficult words to Jerusalem because His people had wandered far from Him. They had embraced idols, ignored His ways, and chosen darkness instead of light. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God warned them that destruction and sorrow were coming because of their sin.
Again and again God said these words:
“Then you will know that I am the Lord.”— Book of Ezekiel 6:7
What a sobering statement.
God was allowing His people to see the consequences of their darkness so they would finally recognize who He truly was — holy, faithful, just, merciful, and worthy of their whole hearts.
In Book of Ezekiel 8–10, Ezekiel was shown the hidden sins taking place inside Jerusalem. Things done secretly in dark places were fully seen by God. Yet even then, His warnings were an invitation to return to Him.
Later, after judgment came, God spoke hope:
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.”— Book of Ezekiel 36:26
Even in discipline, God’s heart was restoration.
Sometimes we experience dark seasons because we live in a broken world. Other times, darkness grows because we have drifted from God, ignored His voice, or allowed things into our hearts that should not be there.
But here is the good news:
God does not expose darkness to destroy us.He shines light so we can truly know Him.
The same God who warned Jerusalem is the same God who lovingly calls us back today. He still brings light into dark places. He still restores repentant hearts. He still desires that we would know Him deeply and personally.
Are there dark things happening in your life right now?Could you use some light?
Bring every hidden place to Him.Every fear. Every sin. Every wound. Every burden.
God is light. And in Him there is no darkness at all.
When His light enters our darkness, healing begins.
PrayerGod, my Heavenly Father,Thank You for loving me enough to shine light into the dark places of my life. Search my heart and reveal anything that is pulling me away from You. Help me not to run from Your correction, but to see it as Your love calling me back to You. I want to truly know that You are the Lord. Give me a new heart, a renewed spirit, and light for every dark place I face today. Thank You for being faithful and merciful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
