Ephesians 4:23-24 TLB
Now your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better. Yes, you must be a new and different person, holy and good. Clothe yourself with this new nature.
Have you ever noticed how everything in our life flows from what we think?
Our attitudes… our words… our reactions… even how we treat people we love most.
Paul speaks so clearly in these passages. He doesn’t just tell us to “act better”—he takes us deeper. He says it starts with a renewing of the mind.
Do you ever stop and think about what you are thinking about ? Most don’t! We just let our thoughts run away. Taking us places we should not go.
Paul reminds us that we have a responsibility to work on our thoughts :
“Be made new in the attitude of your minds.” (Ephesians 4:23)
That’s where everything changes.
Not behavior first.
Not appearance first.
Thoughts first.
Paul gently but firmly says: don’t live like you used to.
The old way is:
* futile thinking
* darkened understanding
* reacting out of anger, bitterness, or impulse
The new way?
It’s intentional. Spirit-led. Renewed.
It looks like:
* choosing truth over lies
* responding instead of reacting
* letting go of anger before it settles in
* speaking words that build up, not tear down
This isn’t about perfection—it’s about direction.
I love how Paul describes it like getting dressed.
“Put off your old self… put on the new self.”
Every day, we’re choosing our thoughts and actions:
* patience or frustration
* kindness or sharpness
* humility or pride
* peace or anxiety
And here’s the truth we don’t always want to admit:
We don’t drift into godly attitudes. We choose them.
And what we choose shows Up in Real Life.
These Scriptures in Ephesians 4:17-6:10 get very real, very fast.
They talk about:
* how we talk
* how we handle anger
* how we treat our spouse
* how we show up at work
* how we live when no one is watching
Why? Because renewed thinking isn’t just spiritual—it’s relational.
It touches:
* marriages
* families
* workplaces
* friendships
Our thoughts shape the atmosphere we carry into every room.
⸻
How can we shift what happens?
Paul gives us the key:
“Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” (Ephesians 6:10)
Because let’s be honest…
We can’t just “try harder” to have better attitudes.
We need:
* God’s strength
* God’s truth
* God’s Spirit renewing us daily
A Gentle Heart Check
What thoughts have you been sitting in lately?
Are they:
* life-giving… or draining?
* truth-filled… or fear-driven?
* aligned with God… or shaped by the world?
Because whatever we dwell on…
eventually becomes how we live.
Today’s Invitation
Today, instead of trying to fix everything…
Just start here:
“Lord, renew my thoughts so my attitudes reflect You.”
Let Him soften what’s hardened.
Shift what’s off.
And replace what’s heavy.
Because when your thoughts change…
your whole life begins to follow.
Closing Prayer![]()
Lord,
Thank You for caring not just about what I do—but how I think.
Renew my mind today.
Where my thoughts have been negative, bring truth.
Where my attitude has been heavy, bring Your peace.
Teach me to put on the new self—one choice at a time.
Let my life reflect You in my words, my reactions, and my relationships.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
