Summer means pool time at our house. We love our pool, but keeping the water clear and beautiful takes work. Every week we carry a water sample to the pool store to find out what needs to be adjusted.
It seemed that nearly every visit ended the same way: “You need to add stabilizer.”
Finally, I asked, “What exactly does stabilizer do?”
The answer was simple: “It keeps the chemicals doing what they’re supposed to do.”
In other words, stabilizer helps everything stay balanced no matter what the weather is doing. Whether it’s blazing sunshine, pouring rain, or cloudy skies, the stabilizer helps the pool remain healthy and clear.
As I drove home, I realized how much I need a stabilizer in my own life.
Life’s weather changes constantly. Some days are bright and joyful. Other days bring storms of disappointment, fear, grief, uncertainty, or temptation. Without something to keep us grounded, it’s easy to become unbalanced.
That’s why Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit.
Before returning to the Father, Jesus promised His followers that He would send a Counselor—the Spirit of Truth—to guide, comfort, convict, and lead them.
John 16:13 says:
“When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth.”
The Holy Spirit is our personal Counselor. He helps us recognize sin, reveals God’s truth, gives wisdom for difficult decisions, and reminds us of God’s promises when life feels overwhelming.
The world offers plenty of opinions, but the Holy Spirit offers truth.
When the storms of life hit, many people immediately seek answers from every source around them. While God often uses wise, godly people to help us, our greatest source of counsel will always be the One who lives within us.
Perhaps your life feels out of balance today. Maybe worry has replaced peace. Maybe fear has crowded out faith. Maybe anger, resentment, or discouragement has clouded your heart.
If so, it’s time to add the stabilizer.
Spend time with the Lord. Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart, reveal what needs to change, and fill you with His fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Just as a pool requires regular attention to remain clear and balanced, our hearts need regular attention from the Holy Spirit. The key word is regular. We cannot neglect our spiritual lives and expect to remain stable when life’s storms arrive.
So today, make an appointment with the Stabilizer.
Let the Holy Spirit examine your heart, guide your steps, and keep you grounded in God’s truth. Then, when the storms come—and they will—you can remain steady because the Counselor is living within you.
Thank You, Jesus, for not leaving us alone in this unstable world.
Prayer
Dear Holy Spirit,
Thank You for being my Counselor, Comforter, and Guide. When my life feels unstable and out of balance, remind me to turn to You. Search my heart, reveal Your truth, and fill me with Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Help me remain steady in every season and trust Your guidance through every storm.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
