Scripture:
âIf anyone boasts, âI love God,â and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he wonât love the person he can see, how can he love the God he canât see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. Youâve got to love both.â

Thereâs something beautifully challenging about this verse. It brings love out of the clouds and plants it right in front of usâin people. Not perfect people, not always easy people, but the very ones God allows into our path each day.
Many years ago, my favorite song was âLet Your Love Flowâ sung by the Bellamy Brothers.
Everytime I heard it, I felt hope of one day, âfinding love. â I thought love was a feeling. A feeling for someone or something. And I had high hopes of finding that feeling with someone very special.
Now many years later I realize âGod is Loveâ! Love is not a feeling! Itâs a person! I am made in Godâs image therefore it must be possible for me to love as he has loved me, unconditional.
Seems impossible, believe me I know. Iâve had some pretty challenging situations in my life and most of them were because of people that I wanted to love me who, come to find out, didnât!![]()
The words, â I love youâ, are thrown around words we use to say how we feel at the moment about a certain someone in our lives. Then perhaps that âfeelingâ changes. Then we throw out the words that seem to hurt more than any we can ever hearâŠâ I never loved youâ!
Oh how dreadful those words can make our hearts feel
!
And itâs even easy to say, âI love God.â But Godâs measuring stick is how we treat the ones He made. Loving people is sometimes messy. It means forgiving when youâd rather stay hurt, listening when youâd rather defend, and choosing grace over gossip. Itâs the kind of love that costs you somethingâbut itâs the same love that cost Jesus everything.
When we love the people we can seeâthe ones in our homes, our families, our circlesâweâre actually loving the God we canât see. Every act of kindness, every bit of patience, every time we choose peace over pride, weâre reflecting His heart.
So today, letâs ask the Holy Spirit to help us love the visible faces around us with the invisible strength of Christâs love. Because when His love flows through us, beauty shines brighter than any makeup, glow drink, or good day ever could. ![]()
