“Then you will see clearly…” — Matthew 7:5

There are seasons in life when a friendship begins to feel heavier than it once did. Not because either person is bad, but because something has shifted in a way we don’t fully understand. And instead of closeness, there’s confusion. Instead of comfort, there’s a quiet ache.

In those moments, the Lord often speaks in the softest way.

Not with loud instruction, but with a gentle nudge:

“Stay kind… but take a small step back for your own peace.”

It doesn’t mean the friendship wasn’t real.

It doesn’t mean you stop caring.

It simply means your heart is precious to God, and He guards what He loves.

Matthew 7:5 reminds us that each of us sees the world through our own experiences and hurts. Sometimes another person can’t see how their words or actions affect us—and that’s okay. We don’t have to force clarity. We don’t have to fix what isn’t ours to fix.

Instead, we rest.

We breathe.

We let Jesus hold the parts we cannot.

When we place a friendship in His hands, we’re not giving up on someone—we’re giving God room to bring healing in His timing, His way, His gentle touch.

And in the meantime, He surrounds us with peace that doesn’t need explanation. A peace that simply says, “You’re safe. You’re seen. You’re loved.”

Prayer

Jesus, be the calm in my heart. Help me walk in gentleness toward others and gentleness toward myself. Give me wisdom wrapped in peace, and let Your love guide every step I take. Amen.
