You know… there’s something about that song “Live Like You’re Dying.”
The way the man suddenly loves deeper…
speaks sweeter…
forgives faster…
and finally starts living the life he was created for—
all because he thought his time was short.
And it makes you wonder…
What would it take for us to live like that every day?
To love people well…
To be truly happy when others soar like eagles…
To get out and enjoy the life God has given us…
To read His Word again with fresh hunger…
To speak gently…
To be a good friend…
To notice the blessings we’ve been walking past.
The truth is—
Jesus already told us the secret.
It’s not when death threatens us.
It’s when we choose to die to ourselves.
Romans 6:4 says,
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death,
in order that… we too may live a new life.”
A new life doesn’t come from trying harder.
It comes from laying down the old one.
When we die to our pride,
our stubbornness,
our need to be right,
our fear,
our anger,
our grudges…
something beautiful happens.
The Holy Spirit breathes in places we once suffocated.
Joy wakes back up.
Love flows more freely.
Peace becomes the loudest voice in the room.
And suddenly—
we start living like people who know what matters.
We love deeper.
We speak sweeter.
We forgive faster.
We aren’t threatened by others flying high—
we cheer them on.
We stop existing…
and we start living.
Not because we’re dying tomorrow—
but because we died with Christ today.
So maybe the question is not,
“What would I do if I only had one day left?”
Maybe the real question is—
“What needs to die in me so I can really live the life Jesus died to give me?”
Lord, help us to die to ourselves—
so we can finally live in You.
Amen.
